I feel like I got dressed in the ‘80’s this mo I feel like I got dressed in the ‘80’s this morning when I pulled out a bright top and throwback gym socks, worn tall. 

During my class I certainly had ‘80’s energy, today was a high vibe day! 👏

After my workout I had a Detox Smoothie and came home to deal with emails and admin, and happily today I found out I was accepted into the @lululemon @lululemoneurope Sweat Collective, their community for fitness pros. Now I’m teaching my own classes here, there and everywhere, I can call myself that! 💪

So all in all, fabulous day. Plus I also did a handstand challenge that I’ve seen on TikTok… I wanted to try it out and see if I could do it and whilst my handstand wasn’t as sharp as the ones I’d observed, I do have 20+ years’ more wear and tear on my limbs than they do! 🤣

What a milestone! I had to mark the occasion, just to pause for a moment and be proud of everything I’ve done since stepping off that plane.

When I went to Costa Rica I didn’t know what my future would look like. I went there to figure it out. But when I came home with my 200 hour qualification and this renewed sense of purpose and excitement for life, it seemed obvious to share it.

✨I’m happy and honoured to be someone who has introduced other people to yoga. 80% of the people who come to my classes are beginners. They are connecting to themselves in mind and body through this practice. 

Yoga is exercise in disguise. It is a form of fitness that is not geared towards weight loss (although that can happen as you become more mindful of your body and what it communicates) but it helps you to access your mind in a way that is unique to other exercise.

🧘‍♀️The act of being still can be challenging for people who are used to constant movement and in yoga we don’t escape uncomfortable feelings, we sit with them and allow them to pass through. This active surrender helps to  build acceptance for where we are; where we were and clarity on where we could go. 

But it’s all fluid. Nothing is certain, yoga teaches us that every state is temporary.
This state of non attachment is called APARIGRAHA, it is one of the Yamas from Patanjali’s 8 Limbs of Yoga. 📿

However if you’ve never been to a yoga class before, don’t worry, it’s not like ‘school’! Yoga philosophy isn’t part of the instruction! Some people will come solely for the exercise, just like I did when I started going to yoga classes. I only learned about the philosophy in depth on my YTT.

So today in my regular Tuesday afternoon class at a local studio we will be doing a classic Hatha yoga class, stretching out the body, building strength through postures and improving balance and coordination. An hour of mindful movement, topped off with a post yoga glow.

Today, on the International Day of Yoga, I’m tak Today, on the International Day of Yoga, I’m taking a new approach to self care.

I’ll talk to myself the same way I speak to my cat.

“Hello gorgeous girl”
“Look at that beautiful belly”
“You’re so clever”
“Want a treat?!”

Out of all those things, the one that was hardest to write was “look at that beautiful belly” because we’re so conditioned to think that only flat and toned is acceptable.

However my cat (she’s so cute) has a massive underbelly that hangs down and swishes from side to side as she walks. I think I love her more because of it. She never tries to suck it in or worries about the camera angle. 🐈‍⬛ 

When I saw picture 1, what came to my mind was that my belly looks like my cats! But I don’t want to hide it away, what’s the point? It’s there, this is how I look. 

⚖️ I’ve shifted over 2 stones to get to this point so of course I’m going to have loose skin but it’s not all skin! I am still carrying fat all over my body. I’m working on it, being healthy, but I’m still wrestling with some habits that no longer serve me. It takes time to unpick.

🧘‍♀️However a habit that I have successfully integrated is daily movement. Whether it be my gym, a fitness class or my yoga.  Swipe to see me in a handstand! I’ve worked on my upper body strength to get there. 

Everyone should be able to see themselves represented in fitness. Strength, focus and joyful endorphins are not reserved for the already slim and toned. They are all of our birthright. We just need to step forward and claim it, work at it and believe we can do it.

***EDIT: I just realised I’ve shifted 3stone 2lb to get here! Not 2 stones! I weigh in KG these days- it’s easier to not obsess when you haven’t a clue what the numbers mean!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I am quite literally, incapable of being provocati I am quite literally, incapable of being provocative!

This is me on Friday at the Balance Festival in London, giving you my best “come hither” by a suitably suggestive sign and it looks more like I am squinting because I lost my readers, and maybe the burn I’m referring to needs a tube of Anusol to sort it out! 

✨But hey, I’m not trying to attract male attention anyway so just as well really. I’m much more interested in the female gaze. I’m a girls’ girl. Cannot be a bigger cheerleader for women than I am. I think we rock.

The only thing is, many times, WE don’t think we rock very much. I hear so often, women downplaying their achievements.  Talking critically about themselves, whether it be body or mind. It breaks my heart. 💔

🗣What if you could make friends with yourself and turn down the volume on the critical voice that takes up space- rent free- in your head?

How do I do I that? I hear you ask!

My answer, gorgeous girl, is Yoga. 🧘‍♀️

I’m not trying to sell you anything. Sure, I sell a space in my yoga class at £8 per mat, but I’m not on Instagram to fill my classes. I use Facebook for that! 

📿My message hopes to get you to think objectively about what you believe, because you’ve never challenged it. Critical self talk isn’t real… I mean, we don’t have to accept it just because it comes from our head. The source doesn’t make it fact.

🌟It takes practice but learn to put some distance between the initial thought and the immediate reaction. It’s a game changer. You realise that you don’t have to be at the mercy of thoughts. Or for that matter, opinions.

💫Meditation helps. Yoga helps. Being kind to yourself helps. Maybe you think I’m cheesy? I own it! I’m the biggest pile of cheese you’d meet! But I’m also genuine, and if you’ve read this far you must see a grain of truth in my words. 

Give it a try. See for yourself. Because I think if we as women start owning our sheer potential, and putting our efforts to good use to make the world better for all then that might be the most provocative thing we could do.

Inspired by feedback from my lovely class attendee Inspired by feedback from my lovely class attendees, I have introduced Yoga Bundles on my website- a block booking system.

I love the freedom involved with running your own business. If something needs doing, I do it. If I have an idea, I launch it. 

A few days ago I created my first Facebook Event, to introduce Yoga Nidra, a transformative practice with many benefits. 

My challenge with this I think, is to communicate what Yoga Nidra actually DOES for an individual. Because once I have testimonials from people who’ve been to one of my sessions, saying in their own words how they’ve benefited, I know filling future events won’t be a chore. 

What would you be prepared to pay for an amazing night’s sleep for example? Or to engage in a practice that makes you feel calm and rested whilst energised and alert? 

It’s entirely possible to hold two seemingly conflicting states at the same time, I know, I’ve done it!  But communicating all this and filling my first event is what I’m currently working on. It’ll give me a nice challenge to do at my desk as a balance to my studio work!

Yoga in all its forms really is like magic. It gives you a way to access and experience your body and mind, in a way that you can’t get from other workouts.
